On March 19, 1996, Lori received a bouquet of flowers from her friend Kristin. This arrangement was made especially for Lori by a florist friend in State College and then personally delivered to Hershey Medical Center (located 120 miles away from State College).
That evening, Lori was eating and playing with a daffodil bud from the flower arrangement. This bud was closed and drooping. The arrangement was beautiful except for two drooping daffodils.
Moments later, the nurse came into the room and announced that we needed to go to the NICU. When we arrived, we discovered that it was time to say goodbye to our twin son, Andrew Kevin, who was born at 25 weeks gestational age and weighed 1 lb. 5 oz. at birth. We decided to let our littlest angel go by holding him in our arms and giving him love in his last few minutes.
When we returned to Lori's room, we discovered that both daffodils had fully blossomed. We believe that Andrew sent us a message that he is in God's hands and he is safe.
