To My Family

Amy Simmons

I am not sure how to honor a brother, 15 yrs old, whom I lost to suicide when I was eleven years old, a sister, 29 years old, who died of heart failure when I was 27, a father, 69 years old, who died of multiple sclerosis complications when I was 36, and a mother, 67, who slipped away very slowly and painfully of Alzheimer's this year. They were my entire family; my roots, and the people who made me who I am today. I feel the loss of each of them deeply each day. This is all that I can bear to write about it at this time.
